Free Rack 02:43
Gangster, gangster he’s all about it Posted by a light pole, they scream & shout it Gangster gangster he don’t play And you can tell by his posture & the look on his face Ace of spades an ace was raised & you can tell by how he’s standing, reinforcing his space Grace I gave in the face of hate, side stepping shit like I was late for a date Stakes have been raised, we playing for pay Balance is an option, give & you take Parts & the shapes The models & makes That's all that really matters at the end of the day Chaos embraced, raw power at play Ain’t trippin off a single thing that anyone say A jewel at the waist, go tuck that away Save it for a rainy day, yea just in case They playing it safe, I’m playing with faith Gravity got ‘em while I free float in space They running to chase, I’m miles away It’s gon’ take a minute least a couple of days Stakes have been raised, we playing for pay Balance is an option, give & you take Parts & the shapes The models & makes That's all that really matters at the end of the day

My chick is trippin bitching ‘bout the f*cking kitchen Like, f*ck it listen, I’m fixing to come up missing So, I’m twitching itching from the bullsh*ting Changed my mind, my decision Changed it up, not to mention one foot out the door so lady listen There’s no more in store or ass kissing out to find me a dime & shine, yeah that’s the mission I don’t want yo sh*t I don’t want yo money And I’m not gonna trip When you start acting funny My chick is trippin bitching ‘bout the f*cking kitchen Like, f*ck it listen, I’m fixing to come up missing So, I’m twitching itching from the bullsh*ting Saving up, penny pinching Clipping coupons, when they send ‘em Stepping out, to step away from tension Over conflict, over friction Over all of it, a new intention (girl) I don’t want yo sh*t I don’t want yo money And I’m not gonna trip When you start acting funny

Hot Nights 01:53
Hot nights Hot nights Hot damn That’s right Hard to sleep, fast cars up in the street Peace & quiet, that’s far up outta reach Counting sheep, the count it just repeats Thirty two, counting thirty three Hot & humid, second time this week Drop into it, that record setting heat Triple digits reaching near its peak Sweating bullets, hot & tryna sleep Hot nights (hot nights) Hot nights (hot nights) Hot damn (hot damn) That’s right (that’s right)

Say Man 05:06
Johnny Say man Get yo hand off my pocket Get yo pocket off my hand Johnny Johnny Say man Johnny Johnny Wanna tell y’all a story Bout easy come, easy go Bout easy street & city folk Money & the high life Or the high times & the high price Pitfalls, cautionary tales Cocaine & the dope sales Wins & the loses W’s & the L’s And how you can’t win ‘em all that’s the part they don’t tell Bar tabs, broken bones Lonely nights, on your own Johnny Say man

Rappin’ ain’t the way that I’m stacking my chips Packin’ ‘em away like I’m Black & I’m rich Fact of the matter is it’s pennies I pinch But I don’t give a f*ck how it happens Passion is the fuel of the flame when it’s lit Massive bit of bang sustaining all this Master of the page, maintaining the gift And I don’t even know how it happened You know how we do though when the melody hits All up in yo conscious we gon’ pleasantly sit Removing all the jealousy & petty bullsh*t And all you gotta do is let it happen Massive is the music when it’s booming & mixed Action is the movement so we moving & sh*t Clashing with counterfeit since we don’t mix And you gotta do is let it happen

Passion Dub 03:10
They asking is passion back in They asking, is that what’s happening I say it’s back in, that’s what happening Passion’s back in It’s back in fashion They asking is passion back in They asking, is that what’s happening I say it’s back in, that’s what happening Passion’s back in It’s back in fashion They asking is passion back in They asking, is that what’s happening I say it’s back in, that’s what happening Passion’s back in It’s back in fashion (yeah)

What We Do 01:54
What it is What it was What we do, just because How it was How it went How it happened How it’s been (Yeah) You might say that I’m sensitive, but nightmares make more sense than this Nighttime f*cking up my sense of bliss And I don’t even know how it happened The struggle is real, culture it kills and its so hard to say no In the southwest end as a southwest wind at the edge of the empire blows Sun sets in as the twilight dims in the dark of the nighttime glow Where the night life spins on its axis again, there it goes (nice & slow, now you know, on a roll, so) What it is What it was What we do, just because How it was How it went How it happened How it’s been

about

1019TNM-003

San Diego, California’s 10-19 and the Number Men have kept busy since the release of their debut Ep, Spokes, in January of 2021. And with their latest — a self-titled full-length, via IOIC records, the band is in fine form.

11 songs in total, the album spins like a roulette wheel of sentiment — unpredictable and surprising — casually rotating from one reference point to another.

Whether it be the psychedelic stylings of ‘Free Rack,’ with its hallucinogenic synth squeals, or the improvised feel of ‘Say Man’ and the hot-blooded vocals that bookend it, they not only explore a plethora of ideas — blending sounds and motifs into a singular approach — but they seem to be having a blast doing it.

So, even with their polished playing and incisive songwriting 10-19 and the Number Men’s first proper LP still feels lite. An inspired body of work, tailor-made for adventurous listeners — all done without pretense, so free and easy, they don’t even sound like they’re breaking a sweat.
